Attend A Meeting

From our July meeting where we revealed our annual challenge quilts

We meet at 7:00pm on the 3rd Thursday of every month in the Goss Hall of the Unitarian Universalist Church at 13 Maple Street, Mendon, MA (click here for directions).

Guests are welcome to attend our meetings. First time guests are welcome FREE to our meetings. We ask a $3.00 fee for returning guests, $5.00 if there is a guest speaker, the meal cost for evenings with dinner (July and December).

What do we do at our meetings? We discuss current guild activities, have show & tell sessions to display our current projects, fabric raffles, refreshments, socializing, fun programs and guest speakers.

Interested in joining our guild? We welcome quilters and aspiring quilters of all abilities and ages. In addition to having lots of fun, making friends, and learning new skills, guild members receive discounts at many quilt shops. Future members are required to visit one meeting before joining, so come to one of our upcoming meetings and see what we're all about!

2018 Programs

January 18 - Jen Sorenson - A Journey Into Modern Quilting
A lecture where Jen will walk through her journey in the quilting world, discuss her evolution as a quilter over the past 15 years. She will discuss how she began quilting and found her style in the modern quilt movement. She will feature between two and three dozen quilts with a strong emphasis on modern traditional quilting styles with a focus on paper piecing, negative space secondary design and quilting with intent.

February 15 - Quilt Show Preparation (No speaker)

March 22 - Maureen Bird - Managing Your Stash
Are your closets overflowing with fabric that you just had to have but can't seem to use? Maureen has lots of tips for diving in and using that fabric! Learn time saving techniques and design strategies that will make your quilting more efficient, fun and original. She'll bring lots of quilts as examples.

April 19 - Timna Tarr - Flying Colors Trunk Show
Timna is known for making fun, colorful, award-winning quilts. Join her for this trunk show of her quilting journey. She will talk about her design and color choices, as well as the personal stories behind the quilts. Timna will also be vending after her talk. (Members Workshop on 4/19)

May 17 - Pat Harrison - You be the Judge
Pat will present the steps a quilt judge follows as they evaluate a quilt. She will also discusses why you should consider having your quilt judged, the types of judging formats used, and the rationale behind your guild hosting a judged show. A trunk show will follow. Pat is an NACQJ Certified Quilt Judge. Pat will also vend after her presentation with her husband Bob—he has all of those parts and pieces to go with your Singer Featherweights!

June 21 - Margaret Solomon-Gunn - Trunk Show - Retrospective Exhibit
Join us in welcoming long-arm quilter, Margaret Solomon-Gunn. She will present a trunk show of her quilts and discuss how she got from being a mechanical engineer to a professional quilter. She will bring many of her quilts to share.

July 19 - Guild Dinner and Challenge Reveal (No speaker)

August 16 - Auction with Cathy Racine of Charlton Sewing Center
A fun night with Cathy as the auctioneer! All proceeds will go to the Fisher House—Boston, MA

September 20 - Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill - Quilt Show and Tell
Sheri’s program will include a selection of her favorite quilts and the story behind each and the techniques she used to make it. She’ll discuss her creative journey, examples and sources for her inspiration and information about the modern quilting movement!

October 18 - Beth Helfter - Give it a Scrap Slap
A look inside her year-long stint as a member of the 2014 Quiltmaker Magazine "Scrap Squad," a select group of 6 quilters from across the continent tasked with redesigning one pattern from each issue entirely in scraps. Each assignment led her not only into the morass of scrap hoarding in her own studio, but also inspired her to create several of her own designs based on the originally assigned projects. Lots of thoughts on what makes a good scrap quilt, why scrap quilts are her favorites, and insights into how one idea morphs into so many more during the design process. You'll never look at a quilt pattern just one way again! (Members workshop 10/27)
